As Seen by Both Sides: American and Vietnamese Artists Look at the War

TRAN TRUNG TIN

On our first visit to the Fine Arts Association in Ho Chi Minh City, we encountered an extrodinary exhibition of the work of Tran Trung Tin. There were nine sculptures and forty-four small paintings, each a jewel. His work is universal with a wide range of feelings from tragic to sad to ironic to funny. Trung Tin is a visual philosopher and poet, who one friend describes as "a bird in the desert." His titles are delightful, indicationg an artist at home with words.

"Can you see in my paintings the love of peace?"
Tran Trung Tin from an interview with Lois Tarlow
