As Seen by Both Sides: American and Vietnamese Artists Look at the War

NGUYEN NGHIA DUYEN

It is natural that Nguyen Nghia Duyen would become an artist proficient in woodcut. His hometown is Ding Ho, a village famous for its woodcut artists. Now he teaches woodcut along with drawing at the Hanoi Fine Arts College. He took us on a tour of the campus, where students were hard at work learning the fundamentals.

"When I was a soldier, I always thought of the tradition of resistance against aggression, but now the war is over and people like me don't spend much time thinking about it."
