For James Cannata, the exhaustive media coverage of the Vietnam War made the images blur and the war seem an ordinary news event. Not until years later, when he discovered the images in books, did he get the full impact of the horror of war.

"I wanted to capture all of the emotions that became real for me, maybe to cause other people to see these things fresh. we had and still have a very erroneous idea of what war is, romanticized with notions of heroism."
